Today’s Solutions: May 03, 2024

10 years ago, the United Nations and the international community began observing June 8 as World Oceans Day to recognize the major role that oceans play in our lives and the challenges faced in preserving this resource. In ten years’ time, the annual celebration of the ocean has become quite popular, spurring lots of wonderful initiative around coastal regions.

On Saturday, in honor of the annual holiday, thousands of people all over the world have gathered together to clean up beaches and celebrate the importance of keeping our oceans healthy. More than 1,000 events were scheduled worldwide with many people attending beach cleanups or information sessions, while others made art installations and attended ocean-themed exhibitions.

The events primarily aimed at raising awareness about the significance of oceans for all life on Earth and the urgency to mitigate global challenges such as marine plastic pollution and excessive man-made CO2 emissions.
