Today’s Solutions: June 30, 2026

While parents are responsible for a good part of their children’s education, it appears that these days the educating goes both ways. A new survey of American households found that today’s younger generation may be driving the change for “eco-households” more than anyone thought.

The survey involved 2,000 American parents and found out that 76 percent of them actually feel their child is the one who advocates for environmentally-friendly changes in their home. The survey listed terms that define the key characteristics of an eco-home. Results found that a green residence most commonly included active recycling, avoiding wasting food and reducing energy consumption. That’s in addition to bringing reusable bags to the grocery store and avoiding plastic straws.

The survey also looked at Americans’ thoughts in regard to climate change and the next generation. Regardless of how environmentally friendly they currently are, results found that 77 percent of respondents would like to be even more sustainable – and for many, having children is a catalyst for wanting to become greener (41 percent). For all of us, this survey is just another testament to the positive impact that the youth is having on inspiring climate action amongst adults.
