Today’s Solutions: December 17, 2025

Often it is our mindset, not our abilities, which determines whether we achieve our goals. So how do you develop a mindset for success? Olympic athlete, April Ross, shares three mindset shifts which allowed her to emerge as one of the world’s top beach volleyball players:

  1. Do what you know needs to get done: Focus on your end goal and create a checklist of things you need to do to reach it. Start today. Not tomorrow or after one more episode of television. The sooner you start, the sooner you will achieve your dreams.
  2. Live in the present and trust yourself: Every time you tackle a challenge, you gain confidence as a problem solver. Take it day by day and be self-assured.
  3. Remember that it’s not THAT important: Setbacks are a natural part of the process, but not leaving room for mistakes can cause you to burn out. Don’t lose out on the joy of bouncing back by failing to get back up at all.

Lastly, Ross says to remember it will all be OK. There is no way to predict exactly what an outcome will be, but being determined and focused on your goals is the shortest path to success. Even if victory comes in a form you never expected, maintaining a positive mindset will help you go for gold in all you hope to achieve.
