Today’s Solutions: February 23, 2026

As the world’s largest consumer-goods companies work to reduce their environmental impact amid pressure from shoppers, Danish beer giant Carlsberg has recently unveiled designs for what it claims is the world’s first paper beer bottle, made with sustainable and recyclable wood fibers.

The bottle design is part of Carlsberg’s Together Towards Zero initiative, which includes a commitment to reach zero carbon emissions and a 30 percent reduction in its “full-value-chain carbon footprint” by 2030.

The brewer has revealed two prototypes for its green fiber bottle. Both are made from sustainably sourced wood fibers and have an “inner barrier” allowing the bottle to hold beer. The main difference between the two is the types of polymer used for the film layer.

As part of its commitment toward making its practices more planet-friendly, the company is also working with Coca-Cola Co., Pernod Ricard’s Absolut vodka, and cosmetics giant L’Oreal on a project that aims to develop more sustainable packaging alternatives.
