Today’s Solutions: May 03, 2024

In recent years, Sephora has emerged as a more conscious beauty retailer. Now, the company is further solidifying its commitment to a greener future by partnering with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to promote safe and transparent ingredients in all of their products.

In July 2019, Sephora committed to three key clean beauty promises: reducing the number of products containing “high-priority” chemicals by 50 percent in three years, encouraging the replacement of those high-priority chemicals with safer alternatives, and adding transparent ingredient lists to all of the formulated products on their website.

The company has made strides towards achieving these goals. Currently, 94 percent of products and 65 percent of entire brands sold on Sephora’s website have no high-priority chemicals in their formulas and 95 percent of the products on their website have transparent ingredient lists. The partnership with the EDF will help the retailer reach their commitments and go even further to ensure their beauty products are safe and non-toxic.

As a leader in the beauty industry, Sephora’s commitment to cleaner ingredients will hopefully motivate more companies to make similar pledges. Additionally, as Sephora carries a wide variety of brands, their decision means that a whole spectrum of beauty brands will have to clean up their act if they want to continue selling with the retailer.
