Climate change and falling pollinator populations will impact every facet of our agricultural system, even beer. This is why Atlas Brew Works has released their new Sunny Honey Saison, a collaborative beer that emphasizes pollinators, green energy, and sustainable farming to raise awareness about our world’s changing climate and the implications that holds for our society.

The beer is made of honey harvested from solar farms that use pollinator-friendly plants as ground cover to support local pollinator populations. The beer is available in limited edition 750 ml bottles at Atlas Brew Works taprooms in Washington, D.C.

Founder and CEO of Atlas Brew Works, Justin Cox, decided to release the beer during the national honey month. The honey was provided by farms managed by pollinator-friendly solar farm managers, Bare Honey. In addition to the beer, the company is also donating 50 copies of the new children’s book, Bee Love, to D.C. schools.

Cox told Brewbound, “Combining 100% clean energy with Solar Grown honey and a supply chain that creates acres of flowering meadows is a delicious innovation we are excited to share with the residents of Washington D.C.”

We recently shared a story about a solar farm in Logansport, Indiana that planted 40 species of bee-friendly plants among their panels. The plants create a cooler microclimate around the panels and boost local agriculture while providing a safe habitat for threatened species of pollinators.

Pollinators play an indispensable role in our food systems. This beer draws attention to the importance of pollinators in making one of our most popular beverages and supports a green energy producer at the same time!
