There is no one path to finding happiness, but there are some lifestyle changes you can make to become more receptive to happiness. Without further ado, here are 3 lifestyle hacks that may lead to a happier you.

Rise earlier

In his new book, Think Like a Monk: Train Your Mind for Peace and Purpose Every Day, social media influencer Jay Shetty recommends waking up one hour earlier than you need to for a more meaningful and productive day. Shetty says most people rise with “just enough time” to start their day, which can lead to high pressure and stress that sticks. By waking up earlier, you give yourself a “time cushion” in the morning and possibly create more “me” moments throughout the day. Shetty recommends waking 15 minutes earlier than usual for one week. Use a gentle alarm, low lighting, and quiet music to ensure a relaxed wakeup. After a week, roll your alarm back another 15 minutes, and so on.

Get better sleep

Especially when daylight saving time approaches, it’s important to keep your body’s clock in check. Sleep specialists recommend adjusting your sleep schedule gradually starting two to three days — or even a week — before the clocks turn back. It’s also a good idea to go outside earlier in the day to help you sleep better at night. Making the most of the time spent outdoors is particularly important for night owls who might not take advantage of the extra hour of natural morning light. Try to limit caffeine, alcohol, and exercise at night, and avoid artificial light near bedtime. That means putting away your phones and tablets at least 30 minutes before bedtime.

Reconnect with art

Sarah Schleuning of the Dallas Museum of Art says “art can be both a stabilizer and provocateur,” especially in times of uncertainty. “Art invites us to process and understand what’s happening around us, and as our personal and collective circumstances change, we can all find relevance and uncover new meanings,” said Schleuning, who works as the museum’s interim chief curator.
