Santiago Potes, a graduate of Columbia University, was just awarded a prestigious Rhodes Scholarship making him the first Latino DACA recipient to win the scholarship.
After the Supreme Court upheld DACA protections for children of immigrants born in the US, Potes decided to apply for the scholarship this past summer. With the funds, he will head to the University of Oxford this summer to pursue a Master’s degree in international relations.
Potes told NPR, “I wanna be a national security expert working at the Department of State or working as a counselor to a senator. I want to use my academic research to help the United States, ultimately.”
