The border between the US and Canada has been closed since March of last year, but truck drivers continue to drive essential goods between the two countries. To protect these essential workers and extend the reach of unused Covid-19 vaccines in the US, North Dakota is extending vaccine eligibility to truck drivers in Canada’s Manitoba province.Â
The program is expected to be utilized by 2,000 to 4,000 Manitoba truck drivers who help facilitate the exchange of about $2 billion worth of goods and services between the US and Canada each day. The vaccines will be available by appointment to truck drivers travelling through the state.Â
“We want to do our part to help those essential workers from Canada who are frequently traveling through our state,” said North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.
