Among other things, toy-maker LEGO stands out as a role-model company when it comes to inclusivity and environmental action. Now, the company decided to also celebrate diversity — and inspire others to do so — by unveiling its inaugural LGBTQ+ set, titled ‘Everyone Is Awesome.’

The 346-piece set features 11 monochrome minifigures, each assigned an individual hairstyle and color. The model was inspired by the original rainbow flag — an iconic symbol of diversity and acceptance — along with pale blue, white, and pink representing the trans community, as well as black and brown to acknowledge the diversity of skin tones and backgrounds within the LGBTQ+ community.

“I wanted to create a model that symbolizes inclusivity and celebrates everyone, no matter how they identify or who they love,” said the designer, Matthew Ashton, who initially created the set for his own desk.

All figures except for one don’t have an assigned gender, in a bid to “express individuality, while remaining ambiguous.” The exception, a purple minifigure with a beehive wig, “is a clear nod to all the fabulous drag queens out there,” said Ashton.

“Everyone is unique, and with a little more love, acceptance, and understanding in the world, we can all feel freer to be our true AWESOME selves! This model shows that we care and that we truly believe ‘Everyone is awesome’!” added Ashton.

The set goes on sale on June 1st to mark the start of Pride Month.
