More and more cities and countries are pledging to achieve net-zero emissions, but this task isn’t as easy as it seems. Some strategies, like installing renewable energy sources and electrifying public transport, are intuitive, but what about private households and emissions from landfills?

To encourage people to think more critically about all the aspects of a net-zero transition, and to let you try your hand at managing your own city, Bloomberg CityLab has created a game that allows you to become the master of your own city, called Smogtown.

As mayor of Smogtown, the game tasks you with getting your city to zero emissions with challenging questions like whether you should try to make public transportation free or more efficient, and whether you should focus on building updates or planting more trees.
