Today’s Solutions: December 15, 2025

During the pandemic, retail giant Target made the choice to move up the start day of holiday sales in order to limit the number of shoppers in its stores during the Thanksgiving and Christmas shopping rush, but it turns out this move has resulted in another positive outcome in addition to preventing the spread of Covid-19. The early sales will allow every Target employee to have Thanksgiving off.

In an effort to improve the experience of employees and prevent Black Friday craziness from encroaching on the holiday, Target has announced it will no longer be open on Thanksgiving Day starting this year.

Target isn’t the first to make this move. Costco and Nordstrom have never opened on Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, many retailers are being forced to remain open and offer sales on Thanksgiving in a bid to compete with the looming threat of competition from online retailers.
