Swedish athlete Linn Grant made history last weekend as the first female golfer to win an event on the European Tour.

Grant crushed her competition at the Scandinavian Mixed event on Sunday, taking the win in the final round at Halmstad Golf Club. It was the second staging of a tournament that begs with 78 men and 78 women in the field, all playing the same course (from different tees) for one prize fund and trophy.

Grant began the day with a two-stroke lead and birdied five of her first six holes, showing off to the world her ball striking skills and cool temperament.

In an interview, Grant answered the DP World Tour website’s question about whether she particularly wanted to beat the men at the European Tour by saying “for sure—the most important thing!” She added: “All week I just felt like it’s the girls against the guys, and whoever picks up that trophy represents the field.”

The 22-year-old went on to say that she hopes “that people recognize women’s golf, more sponsors go to the LET [Ladies European Tour], and hopefully [her win] pumps up the women’s game a little bit more.”

Grant comes from a family of golfers. Her grandfather, James, was a Scottish golf professional who relocated to Sweden from Inverness. Her father, John, played on the Swedish Golf Tour and has seven wins on the Swedish Senior Tour. Grant’s professional journey started strong last year, and earlier this year in March and May she won events on the Ladies European Tour.
