A recent study investigated how major changes in urban transport systems worldwide would effect not just carbon emissions, but economic growth. The results were stunning—a major shift toward greener urban transport could save up to $100 trillion dollars. Oil and land for parking spaces are two main things a less car-centric society would bring in addition to fewer cases of asthma and overall better health for the populous. So next time you have to go downtown hop on the train, or better yet, ride a bike—after all cyclists have been proven to be the happiest commuters.
