Diabetes is a serious problem for more and more people. For them, insulin injection can be a painful process of keeping their blood sugar levels under control. A new, “smart” insulin patch may solve this. This patch, a thin square covered with more than 100 tiny needles packed with insulin and glucose-sensing enzymes, works fast, is able to release these enzymes when blood sugar levels get too high. The creators, who have showed promising results in a study on mice, published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, claim the patch is simple to use and made from biocompatible materials.
