Oil spills are bad enough. But cleaning them up is pretty bad too. A chemical mix is typically sprayed around the spill in the water. But since it’s non-biodegradable, the amphiphile remains in the ocean’s ecosystem long after the cleanup is over. Now, a group of researchers have developed a green solution. Based on the plant-based small-molecule phytol, abundant in marine environment, it has been shown just as efficient.
