Thirteen of the largest US companies promised this week that they will invest at least $140 billion to lower their carbon emissions. They did this by signing the American Business Act on Climate Pledge, an initiative from the Obama administration. The thirteen companies—among them Goldman Sachs, Google, Microsoft, Apple, Walmart, Coca-Cola, Cargill and Alcoa—are all energy-consuming companies, who can really make a difference if they cut back on emissions. Coca-cola pledged that it would look at reducing the carbon footprint of “the drink in your hand” by 25% by 2020, and Google committed to powering its operations with 100% renewable energy.
