Next time when you hear someone saying that eating organic doesn’t make a difference, you could share this news: if you eat non-organic goods, you are eating pesticides. The evidence is in your pee. It’s been proven before, for example in this study, but now the Swedish Environmental Research Institute has put it to another test. They asked a family of 5 to eat a regular diet for a week, followed by two weeks of organic foods only. Every morning, the family members provided urine samples that were tested for 12 known pesticides or metabolites. The study was done at the request of a Swedish supermarket chain and found that concentrations of pesticide residues decreased on average by a factor of 6.7 when the five family members consistently ate organic food.
