India is home to about 70 percent of the world’s wild tigers. Once an impressive population of 45,000, because of pollution and hunting the Indian tiger population fell to 1706 in 2011. Now, just over three years later the population has jumped nearly a third and sits at about 2300. Protecting the tiger’s habitat and banning tourism to areas of forest heavily populated with tigers are main factors contributing to their rebound.
