Life is stressful, but the world itself is not. The world is just happening, but the stress you feel is perceived from the inside. External forces might play a small role, but for the most part the stress you feel daily is a construct of your mind. Learning and remembering how to stay calm can help you deal with everything from anxiety, to road rage, and even small stress triggers. Don’t be afraid to slow things down, when you get overwhelmed sit down, close your eyes, and breathe. Focus on solutions, not problems, as a reader of The Intelligent Optimist we know you’re geared toward solutions; focus on problem solving, not problem finding. Be thankful, as often as you can, it will humble yourself and put life into perspective—it’s never that bad. And of course smile, even if you don’t want to, studies have found that even if you feel bad the act of smiling can turn around any sour mood.
