The Airlander’s hull fills with 38,000m3 of helium and is 30% longer than a Boeing 747. Civil applications are aplenty, from moving large industrial items to disaster relief and high-end tourism. The next step is a crowdfunding campaign to match a $5-million government grant. Iron Man frontman Bruce Dickinson already chipped in more than $370,000, excited “to be part of something big.”
