Biking has found a resurgence across the world, leading countries to better the infrastructure that surrounds bikes. Having lanes designated solely for bikes in one way of encouraging bike use, but another much more spectacular way is to roll out a solar-powered bike path that glows bright blue at night. Created in Poland, this path is lit up by phosphor, a synthetic material that illuminates after it’s charged by sunlight. The beautiful glow matches perfectly with surround dark forest while providing cyclists a safe passage. So far the lane is only 100 meters long, but Polish officials have stated they want to test how well it endures in the winter before more paths are put down.
