No one in Canada will be complaining about slow internet speeds in the coming years after the Canadian government declared that high-speed broadband internet is a “basic” right that should be accessible to all. The government is supporting the national telecoms regulator with a $750 million package that will help the government wire up rural areas and bring download speeds of at least 50 Mbps to all citizens. That’s as fast as the U.S average for downloading speeds. Canada expects 90% of Canadians to have access to the new speeds by 2021.
