In some developing countries, women are often without basic menstrual products, forcing them to rely on unthinkable things such as old rags. To bring menstrual hygiene to the women who truly need it, a growing crop of companies are adopting a business strategy similar to Toms shoes, which gives away a pair of shoes for every pair it sells. One company by the name of L. is set to donate more than 28 million health products by the end of the year. Another company, Lunapads, donates a pad for a girl in east Africa for every sanitary towel sold. With many companies engaging in similar schemes, it seems the issue surrounding menstruation in developing countries is finally getting the attention it deserves.
