In the US we waste about 133 billion pounds of food each year. A new app called PareUp connects frugal grocery shoppers with food that is about to be thrown in the trash. Businesses post on the PareUp app foods that are discounted because they are approaching their sell-by date. Then consumers look at what’s available on the app, and go to the store and purchase the food, keeping it away from the landfill.
