Today’s Solutions: May 04, 2026

The U.S and China are leading a push to fast track the Paris climate accord. The initial agreement was to have the climate accord go into force by 2020.  The Americans and the Chinese are now aiming at 2017, if not this year. The accelerated timeline would be an advantage to the U.S as it would force a future Republican presidential candidate to have to wait four years if they wanted out of the Paris deal and would also aid efforts to attain the more ambitious goal of limiting warming to 1.5C. To enforce the start of the Paris climate deal earlier, 55 countries accounting for at least 55 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions agree must agree. If agreed upon, the updated target date will be placed on the final draft of the Paris Agreement and signed on April 22.
