The U.K. hasn’t even come close to their goal of cutting emissions by 57 percent by 2032, prompting environmental legal activists to get prepared for a trip to court with the government. Under the 2008 Climate Change Act, the government has a legal obligation to come up with ways to meet its carbon reduction targets. Since the government has not done this, environmental activists plan to sue the government in order to create a new Emissions Reduction Plan. Activists from ClientEarth have already successfully sued the government for failing to come up with a plan to cut air pollution, and now they are hopeful that they can do the same here in order to accelerate the U.K’s crackdown on emissions.
