Researchers from Stanford University have found a way to effectively diagnose heart arrhythmias even if a person isn’t exhibiting symptoms and even without a doctor. They’ve developed an algorithm that can detect 14 types of arrhythmia, and can even differentiate between two very similar types of arrhythmia, something that could mean the difference between life and death. The scientists say the algorithm works better than a trained cardiologist. Now they are hoping to use the algorithm to develop a diagnostic tool for people in developing nations or remote areas who don’t have immediate access to a doctor.
