With almost 30 percent of the world’s oil reserves and some of the lowest costs of production, Arab countries in the Persian Gulf will probably rely on crude exports as a pillar of their prosperity for years to come. Still, that doesn’t mean that these petrol-exporting countries aren’t embracing renewable energy. Thanks to improvements in solar technology, the cost of harvesting the abundant sunlight of the region has become so cheap that it’s actually more cost-effective to power plants with renewable energy instead of burning their oil and natural gas reserves.
