The wealthy enjoy the luxury of being able to easily travel around the world, import fine goods, and purchase whatever else they might desire. Such a lifestyle requires much capital, and more importantly, much energy consumption. Rarely do we think about how badly the lifestyles of those within the upper echelons of society impact the environment. With that in mind, what if we shifted from disconnected national taxation systems to a collaborative global regime, whereby individuals are charged on the basis of their personal energy footprint. It may sound like a far-fetched idea, but an energy footprint-based tax system has the potential accelerate our transition to a regenerative economy and help us fight climate change.
