Feeding the world’s population isn’t so much about how much food we’re growing, but how to keep the food we grow from perishing. That’s why an agriculture company out of Santa Barbara developed a plant-based coating that allows fruits and vegetables to last two-to-three times longer than it would if it were left untreated. The post-harvest protection product is made with edible extracts from plants, and works by forming a micro-climate around each piece of food that keeps oxygen out and water in.
