The highly digital world of today needs a greener and more reliable grid capable of providing high-quality power to facilities like hospitals or data centers, where even brief brownouts can cost money or lives. The microgrid is just the thing that could provide that. What makes a microgrid a microgrid is that it can flip a switch and “island” itself from its parent grid in the event of blackout, enabling it to provide those connected to it with backup power. This is just a sliver of the potential benefits that the microgrid can provide for us.
