Glencore was one of the coal mining giants that were set to benefit greatly from President Trump’s generous laws favoring coal. But instead of grabbing the opportunity with both hands and pushing coal energy forward, Glencore has put a cap on its coal production and announced it will switch its assets from coal to climate-friendly assets. This doesn’t mean that Glencore isn’t cashing in thanks to the President’s tax breaks, but it does provide another sign that coal is losing its popularity. The fact that more coal power plants are closing despite Trump lifting one of the significant hurdles for building new plants is a testament to that.
