Today’s Solutions: June 14, 2026

Every once and a while, an image is captured that is so powerful and iconic that it remains in the memory of people for years and years. One of those images came to be this past week in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, where thousands of civilians have been protesting against an autocratic government that has long suppressed the rights of women. Women activists have been central in leading these demonstrations, and that’s clear to see in this iconic image which shows a woman in all white wearing hooped earrings standing on the hood of a car as she leads thousands of people around her in song. One observer of the protest noted that the outfit of the unidentified woman is symbolic as she is wearing “the clothing worn by our mothers and grandmothers in the 60s, 70s, and 80s … while they marched the streets demonstrating against previous military dictatorships”. What makes this beautiful image even more special is that the protests eventually led to the removal of Sudan’s autocratic leader. If you find this image to be moving, you have to see the video of this woman as she sings before thousands of fellow protesters.
