When immunotherapy works, it really works. But not for every kind of cancer, and not for every patient—not even, it turns out, for the majority of them. However, what research is now telling us is that the immune system can be trained to attack cancer. The problem is that the prices, as well as the body’s reaction, can go way overboard.
