The circular economy is making headway as companies are trying to incorporate an end of life strategy for their products. Now, Ikea is testing in Sydney a take-back service. Customers can send pictures of the items they want to return. They can receive vouchers worth up to 50 percent of the original value of the furniture. Ikea asks that the furniture is delivered fully assembled. The company has even partnered with a car-sharing company to provide free van rentals to help ease the task of getting the old furniture into the store in one piece. The focus on sustainability makes good business sense too: with the vouchers, the customers is ready to buy… new Ikea furniture.
