Today’s Solutions: June 21, 2026

Whenever the city of Flint, Michigan, finds itself in the headlines, it’s rarely for anything good. The city has long suffered from divestment and exodus, and the water crisis five years ago didn’t help fix the national image of Flint being a site of intractable poverty. But all of this fails to paint a complete picture of the city. Indeed, over the last few years, the city had quietly scored a number of economic development wins. New manufacturers, shops and hotels are opening up for business, a historic museum just premiered a new wing for contemporary arts, a landmark theater has reopened, and the local university created a new autonomous vehicle testing track, just to name a few things. Part of the city’s exciting revival is due to a startup culture that is finding opportunities in post-water-crisis Flint, rather than despair. And the city is helping fuel that startup culture with co-working spaces and six-week courses for startup dreamers. The story of Flint’s economic revival is one of resiliency that we can all learn from. Have a look here to read about the inspiring stories of the individuals helping to turn the tide in Flint.
