If your throat feels itchy, your nose is constantly runny, and your eyes are full of water, you may very well be going through the effects of an allergy. And while your usual reaction might be to head to the local pharmacy and pick up the first medication to counteract these uncomfortable effects, you should realize that there are natural alternatives that can do the trick. But what if you want to try an alternative to conventional top-of-the-counter medicine?

With that said, here are a few natural alternatives to soothe your allergy symptoms. You may find they’re not only effective but also delicious.

Papaya and Pineapples: These fruits have an enzyme called bromelain, which contribute to reduced swelling and improved breathing

Broccoli, cauliflower, green tea, and citrus:  All of these foods contain one component in common – quercetin. Quercetin is known to stabilize the release of histamines, the natural chemical activated in immune responses that cause an allergic reaction.

Spirulina: This blue-green alga is cultivated worldwide and provides anti-allergic protective effects. You can add it to anything, from water to smoothies. Surprisingly enough, it doesn’t even affect the taste all too much.

Vitamin C: You can easily find this vitamin in many citrus fruits like oranges, kiwis, and lemons. Like quercetin, Vitamin C also helps regulate your histamine levels.

Honey: Most evidence that supports the use of honey is anecdotal, but some people maintain that it helps reduce soreness from allergic reactions.
