Today’s Solutions: February 05, 2026

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 2 – Zero Hunger – aims to eradicate hunger, achieve global food security, and promote worldwide sustainable farming practices by 2030. In an effort to bring that goal closer to fruition, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has recently partnered up with dairy giant Danone.

The move comes from a shared understanding between the two entities about the urgent need to scale up sustainable food and agricultural practices and to provide people with access to more diverse and healthier foods. As part of the partnership also comes a commitment from both sides to work together to promote the conservation, sustainable use, management, and restoration of biodiversity for food and agriculture.

Overall, the joint-effort is based on four pillars:

  • Exchange information on emerging food safety issues
  • Share data on food consumption and nutrient intakes to improve knowledge to foster the adoption of healthier diets
  • Exchange knowledge related to food systems and nutrition security through the provision by the FAO of its e-learning courses and digital certification to Danone employees
  • Promote compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals and responsible business conduct in global agricultural supply chains
