Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

In Europe, everyone knows the sight of the big green Flixbus that takes people on long-distance trips from city to city. In the US, this sight is virtually unknown, but you might start seeing Flixbus operating on the great roadways of America very soon.

This past week, a bright green electric bus drove the roughly 85 miles from San Francisco to Sacramento, charged up, and then drove back again. The test drive was the first pilot of aa long-distance bus route in the US. FlixBus, based in Germany, launched in 2013 to help tempt drivers out of cars on long-distance trips by making buses more appealing to people who might not have considered it as an option in the past.

Flixbus believes cars no longer fit in our modern world. Even if everyone traveled by electric cars, there would still be too much traffic. The company uses modern buses with Wi-Fi and outlets, it has an app that lets riders track an approaching bus like an Uber ride, and offers low fares. Flixbus already offers a few routes in the US, but now it wants to expand its operations and bring on the electric buses.

That’s good news for people trying to avoid airplanes for environmental reasons, especially since the other bus option, namely the Greyhound, is quite outdated.
