Good news for your teeth and the planet! Colgate has released its new “Smile for Good” toothpaste line which features a certified vegan recipe packaged in a fully recyclable tube.

Traditional toothpaste contains glycerin, a byproduct of animal fat, and is packaged in plastic which can take up to 500 years to break down, but Colgate’s new product is certified by The Vegan Society and is packaged in high-density polyethylene, the same material used to make milk cartons. The toothpaste also uses 99.7 percent natural ingredients.

Colgate says it aims to make its packaging 100 percent recyclable by 2025 and plans to share its process with other industry manufacturers to spread the word on sustainable toothpaste.

The toothpaste is currently only available in Europe and a bottle will cost you $6.50, but as the market for sustainable options expand, we will see prices drop. We have shared stories about other innovations in the industry such as the Canadian waste free toothpaste tablets, Change. Smile for Good is yet another solution for making everyday essentially more green!
