The powerful thing about books is that once you open one up, it can transport you to an entirely different world. Where you read your book doesn’t necessarily matter—the book will bring you to new places and new pools of knowledge.

With that said, there’s nothing quite like visiting a beautiful library, picking a book off a shelf, and reading in a quiet domain dedicated to reading. And throughout time, some of humanity’s most incredible architectural accomplishments have been libraries.

Treehugger created a little ode to libraries, rightfully labeling them as “a wonderful example of a sharing.” As part of their ode, the green publication selected 20 of the most beautiful libraries around the world, accompanied with photos and information about each library.
