Texas is set to become home to the largest solar farm in the United States, thanks to an ambitious solar project currently under development in the northeastern part of the state.

Invenergy, a global developer and operator of sustainable energy solutions, says its new 1,310 MW solar energy generation facility will be the nation’s largest when it’s completed in 2023.

The Samson Solar Energy Center, as it’s called, will support the sustainability goals of five major consumer brands including AT&T, McDonald’s, and Google, and supply power to three Texas municipalities.

Located in Lamar, Red River, and Franklin counties, the solar site is a $1.6 billion capital investment and will support up to 600 jobs over the course of its three-year construction period. As part of the project, local landowners will also receive a total of $250 million for leasing their land.

According to Electrek, solar is projected to be the fastest-growing contributor to Texas’ power grid in the next three years.
