Last week we shared the exciting news about NASA’s Perseverance Rover successfully landing on Mars, ready to begin searching for evidence of past life. Now the rover has sent back astonishing video footage of its touchdown, giving us the most intimate look ever at the process of a spacecraft landing on the surface of the red planet.

In full-color and high-definition, the videos take you along the spacecraft’s final descent from an altitude of 2000 meters, with a parachute billowing overhead to slow it down, until the rover finally reaches the planet’s surface aided by a jetpack-like sky crane.

Together with the video footage captured by five cameras mounted to the rover and the other spacecraft components, Perseverance has also sent back more than 23,000 images, as well as the first-ever audio recording from the red planet.
