Spain has expanded their public health system to be more equitable with the announcement that single women, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender people can have access to medically assisted reproduction, including IVF, making it available free of charge.
Fertility treatment in Spain is already free under the public healthcare system, but previously it was limited to only heterosexual women with a partner, forcing those outside of that category to pay for the treatment out of pocket.
“Let no one doubt that expanding reproductive rights is expanding human rights,” said Uge Sangil, the president of Spain’s federation of LGBTQ+ rights’ groups.
