Lint happens—it’s just a fact of laundry life. Whether it’s pet hair on your favorite sweater or tiny fibers clinging to your clothes, dealing with lint can be frustrating. But don’t worry! If you don’t have a lint roller on hand, these easy and effective tricks will help you keep your outfits looking fresh and lint-free.

Lint vs. pills: what’s the difference?

Before tackling lint, it’s important to know what you’re dealing with. Lint consists of loose fibers and debris that stick to fabric surfaces, while pills are small, round fiber clusters caused by friction. Removing pills requires tools like a fabric shaver, whereas lint can be tackled with the simple methods below.

Use a damp rubber glove

A damp rubber glove is a surprisingly effective tool for getting rid of lint. Simply slip on a clean rubber glove, dampen it slightly with water, and run your hand over the fabric in a sweeping motion. The glove creates friction, pulling lint and pet hair off effortlessly. This hack works particularly well on sweaters, couches, and car seats—plus, it’s reusable and budget-friendly!

Try sticky tape

No lint roller? No problem! Wide packing tape or duct tape works just as well. Wrap the tape around your hand with the sticky side facing out, then gently press and lift it against the lint-covered areas. Repeat as needed until your clothes are clean. It’s a quick and effective solution for those last-minute touch-ups before heading out the door.

Use your dryer wisely

Your dryer can be both a culprit and a solution when it comes to lint. Here’s how to use it to your advantage:

  • Always clean the lint trap before and after each load to maximize airflow.
  • Toss in a dryer sheet to reduce static cling and help loosen lint from fabrics.
  • Add a few clean towels to the load to create extra tumbling action, which helps release lint from clothes.
Wash clothes inside out

Prevention is key when it comes to lint. Washing your clothes inside out minimizes the friction that causes lint to cling to fabric surfaces. This is especially helpful for darker clothing, which tends to show lint more visibly. For even better results, use a gentle cycle, avoid overloading your washing machine, and consider adding a lint-catching laundry ball or liquid fabric softener.

With these simple tricks, you can easily manage lint and keep your clothes looking fresh—no lint roller required!
