How ecologically conscious can you get? Norwegian architecture firm Snøhetta has designed a single-family residence that produces a massive surplus of energy. To achieve this, the house has large windows that minimize the need for artificial lighting and solar panels along its roof to maximize efficiency, among other energy saving features. The house is currently being constructed—set to finish construction in mid-September—to show how energy efficient houses could be. The house conforms to ‘ZEB-OM’ standards, meaning that it produces enough energy to offset the cost of fabricating the materials it is built with, the energy used to build it and the energy it consumes, including the electricity needed to power an electric car that drives at least 12,400 miles per year.
