Today’s Solutions: May 03, 2024

A major problem with solar power is that they lose 20 percent of their energy when transferring electrons from the solar panel to the battery. A new solar design has solved that problem by combining the two and creating a solar cell that stores its own electricity. The panels are made up of a combination of titanium dioxide and lithium, and instead of using the electricity generated by the panel to power a lithium battery—like in current models—the electricity in the solar panel interacts directly with embedded lithium making it more efficient. The new panel is estimated to bring down the cost of solar power by up to 25 percent.
