Indian electricity cuts, and “power holidays” backed by the government—where power is blacked out in a certain area—have driven businesses to take their energy needs into their own hands. Indian IT firm ValueLabs has built a 13-megawatt solar plant to wean itself off of government sourced energy. The new plant provides enough electricity to power 6,000 homes, more than enough for ValueLabs, so it sells its surplus energy back to the grid. With the rapidly falling price of solar installation you will see more businesses taking the same route in the future.
