If you live in a metropolitan area chances are you have at least one leftover transit pass with some-odd amount of dollars and cents left on it. Instead of having the change on your transit card fall into the pockets of your local transportation authority, wouldn’t it be nice if you could donate it to charity? Now you can. A new UK based project affixes signs with RFID sensors on them, when your transit card is swiped against the signs a donation, or the remaining balance is scanned off and donated to charity—a quick swipe makes a donation, a long hold drains your balance. Currently only being deployed in London’s underground, developers hope to see the initiative expand to Paris and London.
